About Us

Established in 1995, the Association of Women Heads of Households seeks to provide a basic social need: gainful employment for female heads of households whose circumstances preclude a life of dignity. There is a saying to the effect that "nothing weighs more when it's empty than a stomach."

Our Mission

The Association of Women who are Heads of Households (association Mujer Cabeza de Familia) was founded for the purpose teaching them a skill which could be carried out at home and which would provide them with a source of regular income. A paper recycling project was started, in which newspaper and office waste paper are collected and through a very simple process,  transformed into very attractive hand-made paper. These paper in turn is bought by the association and is either resold to the public by  the sheet, or is transformed by members of the Association into other production such as notebooks note pads, cards, calendars, decorative boxes, gift bags, lamp shades etc. The paper can also be screen printed and photocopied on, so the Association is also increasingly doing contract wok for local businesses and groups

Structure of the Group and Objectives

The association has a Board of directors with 20 women, including a president, treasurer, secretary and auditor. Another 1000 women are card-carrying members of the Association; To be a member of the Association it is a pre-requisite to participate in the recycling activities and production of by-products. But about 200 more women who are not members of the Association recycle paper and sell it to the Association, so the circle of influence  extends far beyond the members.

To promote the philosophy of the Association through our website and to venture into other markets by means of e-commerce.
To enter the market for fine papers, together with the craftsmen who make fine paper in the City of Cali, with a view to participating in the clusters engaged in the printing trade.
To continue recycling bottles, cans and plastic as an alternate means of generating income.
And, above all..
To promote womens values such as peace, solidarity and sustainable development.
We have also published two books: El hombrecillo que se tragó a Dios (The Little Man Who Swallowed God) and Cien Años de Amor (A Hundred Years of Love) by Margarita Gamboa. We have also participated in a number of projects for illustrated books.
